COVID Announcement

May 6, 2021 – “The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is now projecting a sharp decline in COVID-19 cases by July. I’m hoping we’ll be fully done with all capacity restrictions by July. That is my expectation,” said Gov. Beshear. “We don’t have to be patient for that much longer, but we do have to finish our work and protect the people around us.”

The Governor also clarified that small groups of individuals are no longer mandated to wear facial coverings indoors in private businesses or homes if all individuals present have received the final dose of a COVID-19 vaccine at least 14 days prior.

Due to social distancing requirements all yoga classes are currently limited to 7 students.  Please text (859-694-0531) or email heal@amba.earth to reserve your spot for a yoga class.  Thank you.

In all the books about yoga they will tell you that Yoga is a Sanskrit word that comes from the root word “yuk” which means to yoke or join.  It is typically meant to be the union or joining of the individual with the divine consciousness.  In ancient India yoga was a philosophical system that was passed down from teacher to student verbally.  The goal was enlightenment and postures were to help the yogi sit still longer in meditation. When yoga came to the west most of the philosophy was lost and the focus became physical postures and fitness.

At Blue Lotus we believe that yoga is a  lifestyle of living consciously and mindfully with compassion, love, joy and without judgement toward all beings.  This brings happiness, peace and joy to our own lives.  This also helps us learn to love and appreciate ourselves.  We do this through yoga classes that focus on yoga postures, movement and breath.  To get the full benefit of yoga is to thoughtfully move and consciously breath with that movement.  It is then that you are fully focused on the moment.  Nothing else exists but you and the movement and the breath and and your mat and your body.  At that moment you are fully present in the moment, mindful and there is peace inside your being.

In yoga at Blue Lotus, we honor our bodies.  Every individual’s body is different which means that no two yoga poses will look the same.  And our bodies change daily so no two days are the same.  This means that we honor our bodies during practice where they are at that moment.  And we accept ourselves for who we are.  Does this happen immediately?  No – it takes awhile to get past the competitive, comparative world that we live in.  But it is a beautiful place once you get there.

Available Classes

Beginner Yoga Series – This is a six week series of yoga classes that will be periodically offered.  This class includes information about the etiquette of a yoga class, a little yoga history, yoga postures or poses, and the imagination and interests of the class participants.  This means that it may include pranayama and breath work, meditation and chanting, and or some philosophy.  The class gets to have input into what they want to learn.

Wellness Yoga – The focus of this class is learning basic, foundational Yoga postures.  We will work on the principles of alignment, modifications, and using props for certain postures as we move through postures.  This class is suitable for all levels.

Beginners Mind Yoga – Periodically I will hijack one of the regular Wellness Yoga classes and do a Beginners Mind series.  Sometimes I have people who have never taken a beginner class or I have one or two people who are beginners and want to start yoga but I don’t have a beginners class available.  Beginners Mind is a concept in yoga and other areas of study that encourage people to return to the beginning.  If you have been practicing yoga for awhile there are often things you miss when you are first learning a skill or practice because there is so much to learn.  Beginners Mind allows you to focus on things you may have missed and deepen your practice. If you have never taken yoga then this is the place to start in the beginning.  This class includes information about the etiquette of a yoga class, a little yoga history, yoga postures or poses, and the imagination and interests of the class participants.  This means that it may include pranayama and breath work, meditation and chanting, and or some philosophy.  The class gets to have input into what they want to learn. This class is suitable for all levels.

Advanced Wellness Yoga – These classes assume you are familiar with yoga poses and are ready to do more flows when you do poses.  The instruction and guidance is for moving through postures.  This class is suitable for all levels.

Restorative Yoga – This is a passive and gentle yoga class that focuses on restoring your mind and body a place of balance.  We do this using props to support the body in the poses to create a state of ease within the body.  This allows you body to relax and the muscles to let go.  The poses are held for a long time.  Meditation, breathing practices, and Reiki may also be incorporated into the class.  This class is suitable for all levels.

Meditation Classes – Periodically we will offer meditation classes.  These classes may include metta or loving kindness meditation, chanting, walking meditation outside, breath watching, or simply providing a quiet space and support for students to practice meditation.
